I. Democracy Project    

 

www.EmpoweringIndia.org is an internet based platform that allows citizens and civil society groups to access data about candidates contesting for state assembly and parliamentary elections. Our objective is to enable individuals and groups to use the data on the site for making choices at the time of elections and for holding their elected representatives accountable for the deliverables they have promised, thereby participating in creating a more vibrant and proactive democracy.

 

a) Communication and Network Coordinator

 

For activities connected with the forthcoming parliamentary elections and assembly elections in some States, we are looking for a person who is interested in Indian politics and concerned about the need to strengthen Indian democratic institutions.  The selected person should have the ability to communicate effectively with a wide variety of audiences including the media, political parties, candidates contesting for the elections and NGOs, grassroots organizations and citizens’ groups. Applicants must be proficient in written and spoken English and Hindi, and possess basic computer and internet skills. The work will involve:

  • Reaching out to individuals and groups and responding to their queries about www.EmpoweringIndia.org;
  • Coordinating the activities of individuals and groups helping with carrying out the different tasks during the upcoming elections;
  • Demonstrating the site to political parties and candidates contesting for the upcoming elections, and persuading them to provide more background information about themselves, which can then be hosted on the site;
  • Liaising with regional language and English press for publicity and information dissemination.

The position is based in Delhi. The current duration of the assignment is 3 months which can be extended if it is mutually desirable. The remuneration will be commensurate with the selected person's experience.
